Salvador Dali Sculpture

Next to the elevator in the Hotel Éclat, a 60-room boutique hotel in Taipei, stands a sculpture by Salvador Dalí.

“It can be quite surreal to stand next to the elevator, just inches away” from it, says general manager Roger Marten, who adds that in the two years since the hotel opened, the otherwise mundane spot has become a popular site for wedding photos.
The Dalí comes courtesy of hotel owner George Hwang, a Hong Kong-based entrepreneur — he built the city’s Parkview residential complex — and ardent art collector. It’s one of 25 original paintings and sculptures from his private collection, including some by well-known artists, on display in the Hotel Éclat. Click on the slideshow tab to see a few highlights:

Salvador Dali Museum People visit in Record Numbers

The new Dali Museum is beating even the highest expectations. In the first three months, 100,000 people have visited the museum. That's in comparison to 200,000 visitors per year at the old location.
"I don't think anyone expected we would reach 100,000 people in 3 months," deputy director Kathy White said. "I think that that's pretty amazing."
The museum tracks ZIP codes to determine where visitors are coming from. Many of those who come to the museum are from other countries, while few of the visitors are from Pinellas County.

Salvador Dali St. Petersburg Fl. Honda Grand Prix Racing Helmet

Driver Oriol Sevia, from Catalonia, Spain, will honor famed Spanish artist Salvador Dali with his helmet in today's main race.

Newman/Haas Racing driver Oriol Servia is from the same region of Spain as artist Salvador Dali, and he's a huge Dali fan. He visited the new museum inside the race course Thursday and will wear one of his Dali helmets in the race.
"I feel I have a special connection with the (grand prix)," Servia said.
Servia's helmets are designed by Asaign and are among most unusual in racing. Many feature designs by Dali, such a melting clock and marching ants.
