What is abstract art?
Here is the dictionary definition:
ab·stract art
noun
- art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.
Notice the word "effect" in the above definition, this is the key as we are trying to communicate via the work or expression. Abstract artists feel the same way about their works as a landscape painter might feel about a recent photo realistic work they just created. As an example, when Clara talks about her process and result, it is with the same passion as an artist who is proud of a detailed portrait they just created.
To better understand the idea that abstract art has the same value as realism or other mediums, we look at Pollock who through experimental workshops and the study of various cultures artwork that was achieved using a "drip method" and begin to realize that both forms of art are deliberate. When an artist throws paint at a canvas and hopes for the best, that may be a style but it is not the norm for abstract artists. Clara Berta layers her works and uses various tools to achieve depth and texture. The use of color is inspired rather than pre-determined, both have equal value and both have a specific effect on the viewing audience.
A work or art that provokes joy or sadness or any feelings at all has done it's job in the same way a film or song might bring out feelings in an audience, as we continue to sell works by Clara Berta, it is obvious that the public is hungry for more expression and color, that is the current trend and we are here to fill the need.
