Dali High Museum Exhibit a Great Success!
Excerpt from recent article:
Salvador DalĂ's at the High Museum. Unlike some of the museum's other recent megashows, the fresh perspective on America's favorite surrealist has been lauded by critics and audiences alike. The museum reached capacity at the opening and at several subsequent DalĂ-inspired events. Patrons had to be turned away at the door. The man with the funny mustache, it seems, appeals as much to the suburban rank and file as he does to New York Times art critics. By all measures, DalĂ: The Late Work has been a runaway success.

Salvador Dali predicts the future
Biological Garden
by
by
Salvador Dali
Hand signed in 1975
From the popular series of works titled:
Imaginations and Objects of the Future
27" x 30" archival paper.
Worldwide edition back in 1975 was 600 (250 set aside for USA)
Today: Rare
Custom hidden watermark from the original publisher on each sheet.
Description: Dali had a unique perception of the world. Dali kept up to date on the
latest scientific technology.
When Dali imagined the future, it was not his best guess based on Science Fiction.
Most people can only draw conclusions from science fiction films and literature.
There are published photographs of Dali as a youth, with a
science book tucked under one arm.
Dali spent many years studying the subject.
Dali's opinions and predictions for the future, we based on his extensive
studies of Math, Science, Biology and other subjects.
Some of todays leading scientists predict biological gardens will become a regular part
of cityscape rooftops, as we begin to change the way we live to alter our climate.
This is one of many cases where Dali hit the mark.
You can clearly see a series of U shaped crutches in the image, as they hold
lines with hanging vegitation.
The crutch is a well known Dali Icon, taken from a work titled: Sleep (1937 oil)
According to Dali the act of sleeping was a sort of monster sustained
by the crutches of reality.

This work can be shipped unframed flat with protective backing, or
framed in a new museum style frame.

The Dec. 8 auction at Christie's is dubbed "The Year of the Rabbit." Salvador Dali was interviewed by Playboy in 1964 in this issue:
There are other Dali images associated with Playboy as well.
And a few others that are too...well, I'd have to give the blog a new rating
in order to add them.

Salvador Dali Marquis de Sade As Pure as her Heart
Salvador Dali hand signed a series of works in the 1960's titled "Marquis de Sade"
One of the more popular of the set(suite) is As Pure as her Heart.

Juliette takes Justine to a friend, Madame de Buission who could provide accommodation for the two girls. De Buisson turns out to be a brothel owner and requires the girls to work as prostitutes to pay for the accommodation. Justine refuses and leaves the brothel with her gold while Juliette stays and learns the arts of a prostitute. Justine meets a priest who offers to keep her gold safe and return it at the church the next day, should she reside with Monsieur Du Harpin. Du Harpin does not know the priest however, but agrees to let Justine stay for free if she agrees to serve as a maid.

Salvador Dali and surrealism
A number of people have asked me "What exactly is surrealism?"
Quite often when I'm talking to Dali collectors, they refer to the art as abstract. Abstract art is more a combination of shapes and colors or lines that make up a scattered or fragmented image, although there are other styles of abstract such as pointillism (you can easily find examples of abstract art online). Surrealism in Dali's world was brought on by his childhood, the study of science and religeon and his introduction to a group of artists that wanted to promote the idea of the "Rebirth of Surrealism". Many beleive that surrealism started in the 1920's, but it can be traced back to the early years of art. With a bit of research, you can find many exaples of surrealism in the days of Velasquez and others. Surrealism spills over into other mediums as well. Study Gaudi the architect and the surrealists in film etc. The surreal state is a dreamlike state either brought on by environment, substance, or in Dali's case, self induced. There are a number of books that describe a self enduced paranoia and Dali's use of Freud in his works. As an example, the film Spellbound features a dream sequence desined by Dali and used by Alfred Hichcock to create what was referred to as "The Highest Grossing Film of that Year" attributed to Dali's contribution. In my opinion, Surrealism can bring about much more conversation and thought than many other categories in art, and much of surrealism is left to your imagination, while realism tells the story in full and leaves little for the imagination (depends on the subject of course). Impressionism seems to also tell the story in a similar way as realism, but you see a filtered image or the impression of the subjects. In Dali's case, you see long legged Elephants walking across a landscape or clocks melting over a tree branch. The experts over the years have all come up with various reasons why Dali painted melting clocks, but it's interesting that none of them were in line with Dali's own comments about the work.

Salvador Dali name used on Warehouse 13 TV show
The #1 show on SyFy channel is Warhouse 13.
Last nights episode was about a photographer who (fiction) knew Man Ray and possesed the camera Man Ray used in his work. (Surreal photography)
In the show, the main female character Myka is the victim of a man who used Man Ray's camera to steal her youth and give it to a wealthy old woman, leaving Myka a bed ridden senior citizen. The camera had the ability to transfer youth and age between two women. Man Ray used female models in many of his works, so it is fitting that the TV show used runway models as a part of the story line.
During the show, the name Salvador Dali was mentioned because Dali and Man Ray knew each other and it was clear that Man Ray was the Dali of the photography world.
I won't be surprised if the story line for a future episode of Warehouse 13 is about a Dali paintbrush that can create a surreal world. If the writers have not thought of that yet, they are welcome to use the idea!
Dali, Man Ray and friends.

Salvador Dali sets record at auction 5.7 million dollars
Spectre du soir sur la plage by Salvador Dali set a record at Sothbys selling for a whopping 5.7 Million dollars. Salvador Dali is on his way to compete with Picasso at auction. We are accustom to seeing these kinds of prices for Picasso works, but lately we are seeing more works by Dali come up in the 1.5 to 4 Million range, and now 5.7 Million!
You can own a work by Dali starting as low as $1900.00, hand signed. Many limited edition works are selling anywhere from $2500.00 to $15,000.00 and some are as much as $75,000.00 The average person has very little time left to take advantage of affordable prices. Once the market realizes what is going on, the same thing that happened with Picasso, Chagall, Miro and Warhol, will happen with Dali. We are already seeing the trend as prices are rising and many titles are becoming difficult if not impossible to find. Call 888-888-3254 and ask for Dan if you are interested in a FREE catalog.
